Mandy Lee is a third-year Barrett Honors student majoring in Biomedical Sciences with plans to attend medical school after graduation. As a Teaching Assistant for Barrett, The Honors College’s The Human Event, Mandy has become especially interested in how literacy-related challenges limit student learning in biology courses. Through her involvement in Project GenZ, she hopes to help develop teaching strategies that better support students with varying levels of reading comprehension and reading stamina and, more broadly, rekindle students’ curiosity about biology. As a first-generation student, Mandy is also passionate about encouraging other first-generation students to see themselves as belonging in science and higher education. In her free time, Mandy enjoys reading literary fiction, watching movies, and doing anything outdoors.
