Literature Review Team

The Literature Review team is investigating what current literature reveals about how Gen Z learns, engages, and experiences higher education.

Are the past 30 years of teaching practices still serving Gen Z students?

The Literature Review Team evaluates the existing body of research to determine whether long-standing teaching practices align with the needs and learning behaviors of today’s Gen Z learners. By examining the existing literature, the team identifies gaps, synthesizes patterns, and generates new research questions that inform future Project Gen Z studies.

The team studies topics such as:

  • Academic Integrity
  • Gen Z Learning Preferences and Active Learning
  • Attention Span and Task Switching
  • Executive Functioning, Idea Generation, and Creativity
  • Generative AI
  • Gen Z Socialization
  • Student-Instructor Relationships

Undergraduate team members learn how to find, interpret, and organize research literature, analyze scientific methods and data, and develop annotated bibliographies that support ongoing studies. Through this work, the team contributes evidence-based insights that shape how institutions understand Gen Z learners and help guide meaningful improvements in undergraduate education.
