The ASU Research for Inclusive STEM Education Center has launched a group of RISE ambassadors, bringing together undergraduate students determined to make STEM at ASU more inclusive by identifying inequities in education and implementing strategies. The RISE Center founded the group, composed of 13 undergraduate ambassadors, in January 2023.
Jamie Jensen is a Professor at Brigham Young University whose primary research interest involves bridging the gap between religion and evolution and proving that one can hold both a religious identity and a scientific one. She was a visiting scholar in February of 2022 during her sabbatical and collaborated with Sara Brownell and Liz Barnes with their work on evolution education and holding a religious identity in biology.
Megan Barker is a Senior Lecturer at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. She was a distinguished visiting scholar at ASU in October and November of 2022 and used her background in creating an inclusive biology curriculum to bring valuable insight to the RISE Center's lab discussions and research. Megan also gave a presentation as part of the Research, Reflect, and RISE workshops about how to help foster community, confidence, and growth mindset in teaching assistants.
