Scientific training in the USA vs. Europe: structures, cultures, and pretzels

Date and time

This talk will be held in-person (LSC 202) and over Zoom at this link.

In this talk and panel discussion, Dr. Hambleton will give her insight into the similarities and differences in scientific training between the USA and Europe. Originally from Texas, after completing her BA and PhD in the USA (Massachusetts and California), she then moved to Germany for a postdoc before starting her group in Austria two years ago. She'll discuss the structure of academic education and training, connections to industry and non-academic scientific careers, and current hot topics and funding opportunities. She’ll also address culture, both within and outside of the lab and into the gastropubs. Finally, she’ll include some tips for those who may be interested in pursuing part of (or the rest of) their careers in European science.

Location: LSC 202
