Curriculum Analysis Team

The Curriculum Analysis team is examining course syllabi to assess how instructors’ teaching practices align with the needs, preferences, and behaviors of Gen Z learners.

How are instructors designing their courses, and what does that mean for Gen Z learners?

The Curriculum Analysis Team investigates how ASU biology instructors design their courses through the lens of their syllabi and examines whether the ways faculty communicate policies, support structures, and classroom expectations align with the needs and learning behaviors of Gen Z students.

By analyzing syllabi across biology courses, the team identifies consistencies and differences in how instructors articulate expectations around AI usage, academic integrity, course policies, and pedagogical approaches. Their work explores questions such as: What are common AI policies and integrity policies? How might these policies influence student behavior? Do these syllabus policies align with what research suggests Gen Z students need to succeed?

Through this systematic syllabus analysis, the Curriculum Analysis Team generates insights that help researchers and instructors understand how written course materials shape the student experience and what practices may better support Gen Z learners in the classroom.
